The air tax being removed on July 1st 2025 put a tax on seats and passengers rather than the planes emissions. Therefore, its disappearance is deemed a good thing by CERE’s Bengt Kriström.
Bengt, together with other CERE members, have for over decade spoken for the removal of the air tax. Their opinion is that it was not thought through since it is the seat that is taxed and not what fuels the planes. Taking an air balloon from Umeå to Stockholm would require the same amount of tax.
